Chantelle Cameron has been released from her promotional deal. The former undisputed super-lightweight champion of the world was promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, but Cameron is now a free agent promotionally after the company revealed its decision on social media on Wednesday.
“Matchroom Boxing can today confirm that we reached an agreement last month to release Chantelle Cameron from her promotional deal,” it said on its verified X account. “We would like to wish Chantelle all the best in her future endeavours.”
Cameron, 32, has not boxed since losing her undefeated record last November when she took on Katie Taylor in a rematch at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The defeat to Taylor came just six months after the Northampton fighter secured a win over the Bray legend in their first fight at the same venue, exclusively live on DAZN.
"Il Capo" parted ways with training team Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis after being relieved of her IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO 140-pound titles and teamed up with Sheffield trainer Grant Smith, who boasts a stable including his son Dalton, former IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards and exciting prospect Junaid Bostan.
It now looks like Cameron will have to find herself a new promotional outfit to work with as she looks to get back into the upper echelons of the 140lb division.
Seconds Out understands that a fight between Cameron and the WBC and WBO champion at super-welterweight, Ema Kozin, is being discussed, after the Slovenian joined forces with Block One Sports & Entertainment recently, with a promotional offer from Frank Warren and Queensberry also understood to be on the table for Cameron.
Further details regarding the potential showdown between Kozin and Cameron, and the mooted deal with TNT-based Warren, will be revealed in due course.
